Sesame Street And Julia
“Sesame Street’s” April 8 episode will, in fact, highlight Julia’s issue. Known Sesame Street characters including Elmo, Alan and Abby Cadabby support Julia to encounter her fear of haircut. These cute puppets, thus, play a “hair salon” game with her. This particular episode, however, chiefly focus on some tactics used for dealing with autism in relevant situations.
As a matter of fact, Sesame Street launched digital Julia in 2015. Later, the character turned official in April of 2017. Since then, Sesame Workshop has constantly used this character to spread global autism awareness messages. Furthermore, Julia has become an integral part of the Japanese curriculum relevant to psychological issues.
Sesame Street Workshop Participation In The World Autism Awareness Day
Fortunately, Sesame Street Workshop will participate in the World Autism Awareness Day Symposium. Plus the workshop team will join the Tokyo Tower lighting ceremony this year.
Dr Jeanette Betancourt, an educational therapist told TODAY Parents,
“That’s our main thing, is to reduce the stigma, but more importantly show the commonality that Julia shares with every child and that is, for us, a changing view of autism.”
“Sesame Street” fans not just meet Julia but also watch her parents, Julia’s mom, Elena, (an art teacher) and her dad, Daniel, (an EMT the saxophone player). Moreover, the little Muppet has a neurotypical big brother, Samuel, and a loving dog.
Sesame Workshop does not randomly weave the show, the creators, in fact, took valuable advises from autism-related personalities as well as from parents. The characters, script and the basic plot hence, emerged on the screen after thoughtful research.
Autism Speaks Campaign
Autism Speaks has introduced a public awareness campaign. This campaign encourages parents to get their children diagnosed early for autism. April is World Autism Month, and Autism Speaks, a non-profit organization is inviting people around the world to come together to pledge to go blue. This pledge will, in fact, increase global awareness about the autism sufferer. According to the National Institute of Mental Health, Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a developmental disorder that affects a person’s ability to communicate and impacts their behavior.
