Can We Expect a Derry Girls Season 2
The great news today is that we haven’t already seen the last of Derry Girls. Channel 4’s lovable group of misfits living in 1990’s Northern Ireland is all set to be renewed for season 2. And well, it might not just be all rumors because the channel itself ordered Derry Girls Season 2 just after the very first episode of the series aired. In fact, what makes it even better is that they have already filmed it. And the creator Lisa McGee has hinted that the show might be out some time around March. But will season 2 pick up right where season 1 left it off? And for those who need a recap, Derry Girls ended with a much action-packed poignant end in the sixth episode of the first season.
Everything to Know About Derry Girls Season 2…
Derry Girls– the hit coming-of-age comedy is written by screenwriter Lisa McGee and is even based on her own real life experiences as a 16-year old girl. The show follows the story of the teenager Erin and her friends who live in the world of armed police, British Army checkpoints and peace walls. After Channel 4 ordered Derry Girls Season 2 right after the first episode aired, people could not contain their excitement. And now the time for release is getting even closer as Lisa has hinted that they have finished filming. So, the show might return somewhere in early March this year.
Lisa McGee has also added that Channel 4 is considering doing a third season. So, if everything goes well and as per the plan for Derry Girls Season 2, the show will return yet again. As for the second season, it will take the show from the poignant end that it faced at the end of the first one. McGee has claimed that she is toying with the idea of covering the ceasefire and how it unsettled people in season 2. Plus, she is also including Bill Clinton’s 1995 visit to Derry. As for the characters, she wants to give one of the girls a boyfriend or Clare to get a girlfriend and James to join a band.
As for the cast, all the young characters will be reprising their roles from season 1. And that means we get to see more of Saoirse-Monica Jackson, Louisa Harland, Nicola Coughlan, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell, Dylan Llewellyn and Siobhan McSweeney.
Although there is no trailer out yet, but let’s just hope Derry Girls Season 2 is as great as expected! By the way, you can watch season 1 on Netflix now!
