Lin-Manuel Miranda Might Write First Latina Disney Princess
Helping our dreams come true!
The very famous Hamlet producer Lin-Manuel Miranda is bringing something new to screens another time. Looks like this is the year of breaking stereotypes because after Margot Robbie’s new Barbie, we should get ready to expect some diversity in Disney princesses. Miranda is in talks to create the first ever Latina princess to star in a Disney movie. For a long time, Disney has been criticized for excluding minorities out of its big-budgeted children movies. But now that Manuel is on board, we can expect something thrashing all stereotypes. After all, Miranda was involved with Moana- the story of a Polynesian girl who battles ingrained sexist attitudes in a story drawn from the mythology of Samoa, Tonga and other South Pacific islands. Will he really be able to introduce the first-ever Latina princess to star in Disney’s upcoming movies?
Will Disney Bring Diversity with Lin-Manuel Miranda Introducing a Latina Princess?
From what is out in the open, Lin-Manuel Miranda is already working on a new project. Miranda is currently starring in a limited run of his Broadway smash as part of a fundraiser for hurricane-battered Puerto Rico, his beloved hometown. He is said to co-writing a followup to Moana. And this animated musical will be featuring a Latina heroine in the form of a princess. Although Disney has not confirmed anything yet, Hamlet’s writer’s father gave out some hints. He claimed that Miranda was talking to Disney about a sequel to Moana. And it focuses on a Latina princess.
As far as diversity in Disney is concerned, the company is also exploring some new opportunities. Apparently, in the upcoming movie Jungle Cruise releasing in October, they are introducing an openly gay character. Although this might be a great step, critics have been still slamming the company. And this time for opting for a straight actor (Jack Whitehall) to play a gay character.
But well, let’s wait to see what Lin-Manuel Miranda will cook up with Disney this time!
