The slap drama from the 94th Academy Awards revolving around Will Smith, Jada Smith, and Chris Rock is known to almost everyone on earth. Days after the particular moment, the news about the three names is still fresh and continues to develop into something new. Will on the night of the Oscars, right before receiving his first-ever Oscar, slapped Chris Rock. Rock had disrespected his wife Jada Smith’s medical condition ‘Alopecia’. Chris Rock called Jada ‘GI Jane 2’ which made Smith angry. In the aftermath of the moment, Academy disapproved of any kind of violence at their event. It was rumored that Smith’s Oscar will be taken away but he still has the statue.
Oscars Has Banned Will Smith
Additionally, countless celebrities jumped to criticize ‘The Pursuit of Happiness’ star. Recently, Will removed himself from the Academy which means he cannot vote but can still receive awards. Further, the Academy recently announced that they have banned The King Richard’s actor for 10 years from Oscars. The Academy said:
The Board of Governors has decided, for a period of 10 years, from April 8, 2022, Mr.Smith shall not be permitted to attend any Academy events or programs in person or virtually, including but not limited to the Academy Awards.
We want to express our deep gratitude to Mr.Rock for maintaining his composure under extraordinary circumstances. We also want to thank our hosts, nominees, presenters and winners for their poise and grace during our telecast.
The Response of ‘King Richard’s Actor
Smith has accepted the Academy’s decision. He said in response:
I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.
Chris Rock has not made any significant statement about the Oscar moment yet. Additionally, he refused to charge Will for slapping him. Smith apologized first on Oscar’s stage and again apologized to Chris publicly on his Instagram.
