Fans were excited when the Brooklyn Nine-Nine season 6 release date was confirmed by NBC. Plus, we were given more good news that Stephanie Beatriz is going to be directing an episode of season 6. Recently, it’s come to our attention that she will direct an episode that has a #MeToo theme revolving around Amy Santiago, played by the talented Melissa Fumero.
Brooklyn Nine-Nine is known to leave no stones unturned when it comes to coming up with unique and different stories for the show. The character development for each one is rarely seen in sitcom shows like this. Consequently, Rosa Diaz’s story arc of her coming out as a bisexual was a pleasant surprise for many. Though, the show creators do take inspiration from real life stories of the cast. Stephanie Beatriz is bisexual in real life as well. Dan Goor, the creator of Brooklyn Nine-Nine already talked about there being a #MeToo episode, inspired from their cast member Terry Crews opening up about his sexual assault earlier this year.
What Melissa Fumero Had to Say
Melissa opened up about doing such a dramatic episode. The actress explains that this is first time doing it and it would show a different side to Amy Santiago. Now, the camera lens is on Amy Santiago and her #MeToo story. And the best part? Her co-star Stephanie Beatriz, who plays Rosa Diaz, is going to behind the lens. This marks Stephanie’s first directorial debut.
Melissa Fumero is undoubtedly glad that it’s her friend and co-star behind the camera.
“I think it would have been nerve-wracking if it had been someone else, or someone I didn’t know. It was really wonderful to have my friend directing, where we already have a shorthand… It was so amazing to just have that trust, to feel protected and safe.”
Stephanie Beatriz Excited to Direct
The actor explained that writers conjured up a great script for the #MeToo episode so she’s hopeful it would do great. In regards to Melissa Fumero, Stephanie praised the star for her versatility and ingenious acting skills.
“I think she’s [an] underrated actress. I don’t think people understand the scope of her talent, and I am really thrilled I got to be witness to it on set that week. Melissa’s a star.”
