So, Lena Headey is just the absolute best! And she has blown our minds with her performance as Cersei Lannister in Game of Thrones. And while her outing as Cersei has earned 5 Emmy nominations, she has not won it yet! Now, Lena Headey is shifting to the head chair. And this time, she will expand her horizons as an artist by directing!
Moreover, the movie is based on a best-selling novel of the same name. And Lena Headey–who has defined powerful woman herself–is now directing a movie about complex female characters.
While this is a directorial debut movie for Lena Headey, this is not her first time behind the camera. And she has already directed the BAFTA-nominated short film The Trap. Moreover, she also has director credits for two music videos: Freya Ridings’s “You Mean the World to Me” and DJ Madeon’s “Miracle”.
What’s ‘Violet’ about?
So, the movie is based on two women meeting by happenstance while traveling. And they become good friends. However, their reality is far from what they let on.
And the movie is an amalgamation of the concepts of Killing Eve, The Talented Mr. Ripley, and Single White Female. Further, the movie will be a psychological thriller based on SJI Holliday’s 2019 best-seller novel “Violet”. And it will have lots of obsession, manipulation and toxic friendships!
Dark Alliance Film is executive producing, with Goldfinch Entertainment producing and financing the movie. And while Violet has just gone into production, with a trailer still a far way away, we’re excited for the release!
Lena Headey talks directing
Now, Lena Headey has been praising the source material for the movie. And she enjoys the fact that her directorial debut movie is based on complex female leads:
“Susi [JI Holliday, the author]’s Violet is a compulsive page turner that stayed with me long after I finished the book — it’s exciting that my first feature as a director will be such an intense female thriller. It’s a wild ride to the finish with vast cinematic scope, centering around two very complex women who will completely unravel over the course of the film. I can’t wait to get rolling.”
And co-producer Phil McKenzie also sang high praise for the upcoming thriller:
“Goldfinch Entertainment exists to fuel incredible projects and creative leaps – and we’re excited to be supporting the multi-talented Lena Headey’s foray into feature directing with this irresistible and chilling female-fronted thriller.”
So, watching Lena Headey make her debut as director is exciting! And we can’t wait for the movie to come out on the big screen. And we’re sure it will receive a lot of praise. The story and concept seem like they will keep our eyes glued to the screen from start to end!
