ABC Scraps The Middle Spin-off As President Channing Dungey Moves Out

In this holiday season this news sure comes as a bummer. ABC pulled the plug of its long running sitcom The Middle, after its 9th season recently. Upon the conclusion of the show, rumors began circulating that ABC was planning to bring back its cult sitcom with a spin off series Sue in the City. The Middle’s original writers DeAnne Heline and Eileen Heisler were to pen the series following the life of the all-grown-up fan-favorite character Sue Heck. The series was to see Sue as she moves from her small town in Indiana to start a new life in Chicago. However, according to recent reports, ABC has now decided not to go ahead with The Middle Spin-off.

Eden Sher Is Not Getting Her The Middle Spin-off

This news comes out along with the very news of ABC getting a new president. It is; hence, predictable that ABC will revamp is programming strategy. Additionally, in the coming days we will also see a lot of renewals and cancellations for present TV shows.

Sue In The City Scrapped As ABC President Exits

Sue in the City was to star The Middle stand out Eden Sher. ABC had ordered a pilot series for August and alongside Eden Sherfellow Middle alum Brock Ciarlelli as well as Kimberley Crossman, Finesse Mitchell and Aaron Branch where to also star on the show. The plan of developing a series was initiated by departing ABC Entertainment President Channing Dungey. He wanted to churn out The Middle Spin-off  for a millennial audience. This marks the second such comedy pilot, centered on a young character from a popular series, to get a pass by ABC, following The Black-ishspinoff Grown-ish, which has become a breakout hit for Freeform.

Sitcom Reboots Take ABC By Storm

Comedy galore at ABC. It is; hence, understandable why the network decided to call quits on its plans for The Middle spin off. While the news is disappointing for Eden Sher fans, it is an understandable programming reaction after the network witnessed the fall in numbers with its recent spin-off series the Conners. Along with Sue in the City, ABC also plans to produce a Goldbergs spinoff titled Schooled. The particular series will hit the network screens next year. With an extensive array of sitcoms comes up it’s kitty the network was in no need for another comic revival. Hence, it pushes button on its plan for The Middle remake.
