Megyn Kelly Exits NBC with 30$ Million Deal
The much hyped and controversial NBC host Megyn Kelly has finalized her exit deal. Although she was fired for the backlash she sparked with her blackface comments, she will be paid $30 million by the channel. However, that’s certainly a lot less compared to the $69 million deal that she signed in for when she exited Fox News to join NBC. The paperwork might be taking a bit longer than expected. But NBC has decided to pay off Megyn Kelly and get rid of the anchor in a neater way rather than fighting her in a lawsuit. Surprisingly, Kelly is already planning to return back to television. But other sources point out that she might take a break and return just in time for the 2020 elections.
NBC Decides To Pay Off Megyn Kelly
The embattled anchor Megyn Kelly was fired by NBC from her 9 am morning show after she questioned why putting on blackface costumes was not okay anymore. After receiving major backlash from the public, NBC dumped its controversial host and allotted her slot to Al Roker and team. But the exit deal with the channel has still not been completely final yet. Sources claim that the NBC owner Comcast will pay her around a total of $30 million. But that’s still less compared to the $69 million deal that she signed with the channel after she exited Fox News in 2017.
A source who is in on all these negotiation details says that the paperwork is taking unusually long. Another source confirmed that both Megyn Kelly and NBC want to get over with this deal. They both wanted to be done with the deal now.
A senior TV source also added that NBC decided to sort out this fiasco by paying Kelly the entire amount they owe her. They really wanted her out. Though, they had the option of fighting the former host in a lawsuit. The channel decided to settle things in a much private manner. After Kelly’s notorious trouble at NBC, the ratings for the show and channel have already suffered. The source also informed that Megyn Kelly might stay on a break for a while now. But the host who has a long found taste for controversy will be returning on TV before 2020.
Representatives for Kelly and NBC have denied the requests to comment.
