Betty White Dies at 99, Hollywood reacts to losing an icon

Only weeks before turning 100, Betty White died on 31st December. In a heartfelt statement, her agent and friend, Jeff Witjas confirmed the news. For seven decades, Hollywood’s ultimate Golden Girl won the hearts of people and spread laughter. Since the news of her death went viral, Hollywood’s A-list celebrities and her co-stars have been shared tributes.

Prior to joining TV, White found her calling on radio.

After she switched to TV, Betty White became a regular panelist on game shows like Password, Match Game, Tattletales, To Tell the Truth, The Hollywood Squares, and The $25,000 Pyramid. For her incredible work on these shows, she became the first woman to receive Daytime Emmy Awards. However, it is her performance on The Golden Girls as Rose Nylund which took her to new heights of fame. After that, Betty White became a household name and a superstar in her own right. In 2010, she gave another memorable performance in Hot in Cleveland. Similarly, she hosted SNL which earned her a Primetime Emmy Award.

On 31st December, her agent announced that Betty White died at 99.

In a heartfelt statement, Jeff Witjas confirmed the news that Betty White died only few weeks before her 100th birthday. He wrote:

“Even though Betty was about to be 100, I thought she would live forever. I will miss her terribly and so will the animal world that she loved so much. I don’t think Betty ever feared passing because she always wanted to be with her most beloved husband Allen Ludden. She believed she would be with him again.”

While the cause of death have not been revealed, the reports suggest that Betty White died of natural causes. Only two days before her death, she talked about her upcoming 100th birthday and said:

“I’m amazed. No, seriously, I’m the luckiest broad on two feet to be as healthy as I am and to feel as good as I do!”

Since Betty White died, Hollywood’s celebrities have been sharing their tributes.

It is not wrong to say that she was a legend and the most beloved person in Hollywood. Few years back, she made a Guinness World Record for working longer than any other actor on TV. After the news came out that Betty White died, celebrities expressed their sorrow. At the same time, they remembered the legendary actress. Her co-star from The Proposal, Ryan Reynold shared a tweet and said:

The world looks different now. She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow very old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.

Actor George Takei mourned the news that Betty White died and said:

Our national treasure, Betty White, has passed just before her 100th birthday. Our Sue Ann Nivens, our beloved Rose Nylund, has joined the heavens to delight the stars with her inimitable style, humor, and charm. A great loss to us all. We shall miss her dearly.

Meanwhile, former First Lady, Michelle Obama wrote:

Betty White broke barriers, defied expectations, served her country, and pushed us all to laugh. Barack and I join so many around the world who will miss the joy she brought to the world. I know our Bo is looking forward to seeing her up in heaven.

Current president, Joe Biden also shared a tribute and wrote:

Betty White brought a smile to the lips of generations of Americans. She’s a cultural icon who will be sorely missed. Jill and I are thinking of her family and all those who loved her this New Year’s Eve.

Needless to say, Hollywood is mourning this incredible loss.
