After four years, James Franco has opened up about sexual misconduct allegations. In 2018, five women, including his students, came forward to accuse him of inappropriate and sexual exploitation. It was the same year when he won Golden Globe for The Disaster Artist. According to him, he was addicted and blinded by the power dynamics. At the same time, he admits that it was wrong to sleep with his students. However, he says that it was consensual.

Four years ago, five women accused James Franco of inappropriate behavior

During the Golden Globes ceremony in 2018, James Franco received his award with a Times Up pin on his jacket. While many appreciated the gesture, five women felt betrayed and angry. In 2014, Franco co-founded a film school Studio 4. At the school, he mentored hundreds of aspiring actors and filmmakers. However, four of his students accused him of sexual exploitation and inappropriate behavior. According to one student, Sarah Tither-Kaplan, she felt that the Times Up pin was a slap on her face. She said:

“I feel there was an abuse of power, and there was a culture of exploiting non-celebrity women, and a culture of women being replaceable.”

Meanwhile, another woman, who also worked on the set of one of James Franco’s films, claimed that he would get angry if any woman would refuse to go topless. At the same time, they accused him of performing detailed intimate scenes and intimidated the students to do it.

At that time, Pineapple Express actor denied the allegations

After the accusations came out, James Franco and his lawyer disputed all of the claims by these women. In an interview with Stephen Colbert, the actor said:

“Look, in my life I pride myself on taking responsibility for things that I have done. I have to do that to maintain my well being. The things that I heard that were on Twitter are not accurate. But I completely support people coming out and being able to have a voice because they didn’t have a voice for so long. So I don’t want to shut them down in any way. If I have done something wrong. I will fix it — I have to.”

Recently, James Franco admitted that he was addicted to power and s*x

After four years, James Franco is addressing the allegations his students put on him. In an interview with Sirius XM, he admitted that he was dependent on validation that he got from professional success and sexual approval from women. James Franco talked about being addicted to power dynamics and said:

“It’s such a powerful drug, and I got hooked on it for 20 more years. Look, I’ll admit, I did sleep with students. I didn’t sleep with anybody in that particular class, but over the course of my teaching I did sleep with students, and that was wrong. But like I said, it’s not why I started the school and I wasn’t the person that selected the people to be in the class. So it wasn’t a ‘master plan’ on my part. But yes, there were certain instances where, you know what, I was in a consensual thing with a student and I shouldn’t have been.”

Previously, it was reported that James Franco had settled the suit by paying $2.23 million. When asked why he was quiet for so long, he claimed that he did not think it was the right time to say anything. Since the allegations came out, the actor has not appeared in any big project.
