But, Kevin Feige again proved them wrong, as Spider-Man 3 has now recorded Marvel’s second-biggest box office opening of all time.

No Way Home gave Endgame and Infinity War a run for their money

Spider-Man: No Way Home Gets The Second Biggest Box Office Opening Of All Time!

The numbers with Spider-Man: No Way Home are just mind-boggling. The movie collected a total of $260 million in North American theaters over the weekend, which was above the estimated $253 million. This takes Spider-Man: No Way Home above Infinity War, which made around & $257 million, to the second spot in biggest debuts in Hollywood history. The first spot obviously belongs to Avengers: Endgame at a mammoth $357 million.

When it comes to the international box office, Spider-Man: No Way Home was able to earn $340.8 million from 60 overseas markets. This took its global box office numbers to $600.8 million. Although still huge, this tally was not enough for it to surpass Avengers: Infinity War on the global stage. Spider-Man 3 stands as the third biggest global debut, behind Avengers: Endgame at $1.2 billion and Avengers: Infinity War at $640 million.

Even though Spider-Man couldn’t topple Endgame and Infinity War entirely, one does wonder what could have been had there not been a raging pandemic. However, it’s good to know that Spider-Man: No Way Home has absolutely obliterated the COVID market. Prior to No Way Home, no movie had crossed the $100 million mark in a single weekend since COVID-19. The only movie that came close was Sony’s Venom: Let There Be Carnage, which generated $90 million. As a result, speculators could not predict precisely just how big a success Spider-Man: No Way Home could be.

How Spider-Man: No Way Home gathered so much money is blatantly obvious

Moreover, the promise that Spider-Man: No Way Home brought with itself was immense. People were anticipating seeing Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire all in the same film. Moreover, the promise of seeing Doc Ock (Alfred Molina), Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), and Electro (Jamie Foxx), brought viewers in unprecedented numbers to the theatres during COVID.

Even though Holland and Garfield had been denying the inevitable for months, fans got their ultimate fan service. Seeing all three Spider-Men along with so many easter eggs left fans satisfied after leaving the theatres. It’s this fan service that is driving people towards the cinemas. But, many people believe that had there not been COVID-19, No Way Home might have even dwarfed Endgame. These are some bold claims, but not impossible ones. As Justin McDaniel, Cinemark’s senior VP of global content said about Spider-Man: No Way Home:

Spider-Man fans proved they are some of the most enthusiastic moviegoers with their record-breaking support of the film’s debut around the world, making this live-action multiverse an international sensation that must be seen on the big screen
