While talking about the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy, one actor that truly stands out as iconic, apart from the already legendary cast, is JK Simmons. Of course, it’s Tobey Maguire, Willem Dafoe, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, and Alfred Molina that get serious critical plaudits. But, it was Simmons’s James Jonah Jameson that brought laughter to everyone’s face. Moreover, his portrayal of the character also received massive critical applause too because of its accuracy. And that’s why fans were jubilant to see him reprise the role of JJJ in Spider-Man: Far From Home, right in the post-credit scene. Now, the actor has talked about his role in the upcoming Spider-Man: No Way Home as well.

While talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, JK Simmons made fun of how different his character looked now compared to the Sam Raimi Spider-Man trilogy. He especially made fun of the receding hairline, saying:

You know what, I think it’s a slightly different version. Certainly, from the creators of the current iteration of the story, it’s a very different character. To me, it’s a slightly different character. It’s the same blowhard; the same guy with less hair. Honestly, I kinda wish he had the same hair.

That said, it feels like there is a bit of consistency in how JK Simmons is going to deal with James Jonah Jameson. He understood that the character is only there for comic relief in the MCU, saying:

As is appropriate for that character, he’s a little comic relief thing that gets sprinkled lightly into the movie.

That said, despite his innocuous role in Sam Raimi’s trilogy and the MCU, comic book fans absolutely adore him. He is, according to Marcus from Cosmonaut Variety Hour, the most authentic version of James Jonah Jameson.

Spider-Man: No Way Home looks like a tribute to the character

JK Simmons is just one of the many former Spider-Man stars that Marvel is lining up for Spider-Man: No Way Home. Tom Holland will be teaming up with Tobey Maguire & Andrew Garfield (according to rumors) to fight against the Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro, the Sandman, and the Lizard. And Willem Dafoe, Alfred Molina, Jamie Foxx, and all the other actors associated with these villains will be reprising their roles in the movie too. It feels like this movie is a tribute to the past two decades of Spider-Man and the love that fans have bestowed upon him, easily making him the most beloved hero in the MCU and beyond.
