Spotify Removes Shuffle Button On Adele's Request: "Our Art Tells A Story"

We’d do anything for Adele, right? Well, that’s exactly what Spotify did. Yesterday, on Twitter, Adele revealed that she had requested the removal of the default shuffle button from album pages. What the shuffle button did was that it would by default play the album tracklist on shuffle and not in the way the artists had organized it. But, that was not acceptable to Adele. She says artists put a lot of care in their track listing and it “tells a story”. Therefore, albums should be listened to as they have intended. And Spotify happily complied. Adele tweeted:

This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry! We don’t create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening.

And Spotify replied with “Anything for you”. That’s just insanely cute, right?

The shuffle button was made of two crisscrossing arrows and accompanied the play button by default on Spotify. They’ve removed it now, but it is still available to users when they click to view album tracks. Moreover, Spotify had to keep Adele happy, who just released her comeback album titled ’30’. She first made her comeback with the hit single Easy On Me in October, which was her first new song in 6 years. It took just one day for Easy On Me to become the most-streamed song in just one day.

The success of Adele’s new album 30

30 is now Adele’s fourth studio album, and she had started working on it in 2018. Moreover, it also has some other amazing tracks, like My Little Love, Oh My God, I Drink Wine, and Hold On. These songs truly portrayed her vulnerability, which as she explained while she was undergoing her divorce and the breakdown of her marriage with charity boss Simon Konecki, with whom she has a son, Angelo. Her voice in this album reminded people of the olden days of legends like Patsy Cline and Roberta Flack.

According to Spotify, the album has been a complete success with 60.7 million streams globally on its first day. However, it isn’t the most streamed album on Spotify. That title belongs to Taylor Swift and her album Red (Taylor’s Version).
