So far, in the trailer, we’ve seen Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin, Sandman, and countless rumors of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire teaming up with Tom Holland’s Spider-Man to deal with all these villains. But, with so many reunions planned, is it possible for MCU fans to see Kirsten Dunst reprise her role as Mary Jane in Spider-Man 3?

Famous for being the OG Mary Jane in the Sam Raimi trilogy, Kirsten Dunst brings out a lot of nostalgia among Spider-Man fans. Dunst made her Mary Jane debut next to Tobey Maguire in Sam Rami’s Spider-Man (2002), followed by Spider-Man 2 (2004) and Spider-Man 3 (2007). And that is why several fans speculated that with Marvel pulling off such an incredible multi-versal reunion, it can be possible Dunts makes a return as well. However, The Power of the Dog actress has quickly dispelled those rumors. While talking to Total Film, the actress supposedly put a nail in the coffin of all rumors, saying:

I’m not in the movie, no. I know there’s rumo

rs, right?

However, Kirsten Dunst has said that she would have no problem in reprising her role as Mary Jane. While talking to Variety, she even said that she wouldn’t have a problem in playing an older version of MJ, with “Spider babies,” telling the news outlet:

I would do it. Why not? That would be fun. I’d be old MJ at this point with little Spidey babies.

Even though Kirsten Dunst has said she will not feature in Spider-Man: No Way Home, so has Andrew Garfield. Could it be that they’re lying?

That said, we should all take Kirsten Dunst’s words with a pinch of salt. Despite all the rumors, Andrew Garfield has also said that he will not feature in Spider-Man: No Way Home. While talking to Jimmy Fallon, the former Spider-Man said:

I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I’m a fan as well. You can’t help but imagine scenes and moments of ‘Oh, my God, how f***ing cool would it be if they did that?’.” But it’s important for me to say on the record that this is not something I’m aware I am involved in. But I know I’m not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don’t know what’s happening. No matter what I say, I’m f***ed. It’s either going to be really disappointing for people or it’s going to be really exciting.

Even when alleged pictures of Maguire and Garfield on-set of Spider-Man 3 emerged on the internet, he quickly said that those rumors were false and that the pictures were just “photoshopped”. He’s keeping a similar stance to Kirsten Dunst on this. Similarly, Tom Holland has also said the same about this reunion, saying:

People don’t believe me when I say that [Maguire and Garfield] are not coming back. But people are going to have to believe me at some point.

We have to remember that Disney does have a history of utmost secrecy. They’re actually notorious for keeping all their behind-the-scene activities a well-guarded secret. So, there is a possibility that Kirsten Dunst, Andrew Garfield, and Tom Holland could be lying. But, we’ll only find that out in either the second trailer of Spider-Man: No Way Home, or when the movie finally hits the theatres on December 17th, 2021.
