In 2018, Travis Scott started the Astroworld Festival.

According to Travis Scott, he wanted to bring back the beloved spirit and nostalgia of Astroworld back. At the same time, it was his childhood dream which came true. He named the festival after his studio album. After the massive launch, the festival returned with an additional lineup and incredible stars in 2019. The lineup of that year included Marilyn Manson, Rosalia, Migos, Gucci Mane, DaBaby, and Travis Scott himself. During the pandemic, the festival was postponed which returned in 2021. This year’s lineup included Scott himself, Bad Bunny, SZA, Young Thug, Baby Keem, Lil Baby, 21 Savage, and Master P. However, the festival came to a halt after the tragic incident.

According to eye witnesses, there were too many people and not enough space

On Friday, a stampede began during the performance of Travis Scott. According to an attendee, more and more people came to the venue. This resulted in people pushing each other forward to make space. At the same time, more and more people wanted to stand closer to the stage. At one point, people were gasping for breath and felt suffocated. During the struggle to get out of there, people started pushing and many fell down. That is how eight people died and more than 3000 were injured during the Travis Scott concert. However, there may have been another rather suspicious reason for people getting unconscious. According to Houston PD’s Chief, Troy Finner, one security guard felt a prick on his neck and he lost consciousness. Therefore, many other people who were unconscious might have faced something like this. At the moment, the investigation is underway.

I am absolutely devastated by what took place last night. My prayers go out to all the families and all those impacted by what happened at Astroworld Festival. Houston PD has my total support as they continue to look into the tragic loss of life. I am committed to working together with the Houston community to heal and support the families in need.
