Armie Hammer Mocks Celebrities Paying Tribute to Stan Lee with Selfies
Recently, we learned of the death of comic book legend Stan Lee. Most people from the Marvel universe – cast, producers, and fans alike – were overcome with grief and loss. And a lot of them took to social media to pay their respects. These included celebrities like Tom Hardy, Hugh Jackman, Evangeline Lilly, and Mark Hamill. They all posted photos of themselves with Lee. However, Armie Hammer apparently disapproves.
The actor was caught arguing with his Twitter followers over the correct way to mourn a comic book icon.
Armie Hammer Throws Shade at Stan Lee Tributes
First, he threw shade at celebrities remembering Lee by posting pictures:
“So touched by all of the celebrities posting pictures of themselves with Stan Lee… no better way to commemorate an absolute legend than putting up a picture of yourself,” Hammer sarcastically wrote on Twitter.
Then, one Twitter user wrote that people posting selfies with Lee were likely “remembering how it felt to meet him”. So the actor elaborated what he had meant:
“If Stan impacted your life (ie. All of our lives) with his work, post his work that touched you the most. Posting a selfie makes his death about you and how cool you felt taking a picture with him.”

When another follower suggested that remembering someone who died with a photo is a natural instinct, he then called for a “cultural revamp across the board.”
If your answer is “post a selfie” then I think we need a cultural revamp across the board.

Thankfully, Armie Hammer didn’t directly name any of the people that apparently offended him by posting Stan Lee’s selfies. However, he did mention Mark Ruffalo (known for playing the Incredible Hulk in the Marvel Universe) for sharing a tribute that was up to his standards.
The Avengers actor had posted a photo of Lee posing with a Hulk statue and written a thoughtful tribute alongside:
Sad, sad day. Rest In Power, Uncle Stan. You have made the world a better place through the power of modern mythology and your love of this messy business of being human… pic.twitter.com/x6yZ6ClNSX

Hammer approves of Ruffalo’s tribute:
“This was an example that stood out and made me think his post was actually about Stan,”
After that, we didn’t hear more from Armie Hammer on the issue. But people still continued to make fun of him for his accusations.
