Angelina Jolie doubts if she can ever make it in Bollywood
There are few names in Hollywood as influential and widespread as Angelina Jolie. She has worked in numerous movies, like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Maleficient, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, and many others. And now, she’s trying her luck with Marvel in ‘Eternals‘. That is quite a formidable CV that can be the envy of many. However, despite possessing such amazing talents, Jolie is unsure if she can make it in one of the biggest film industries in the world – Bollywood in India.
While talking to Hindustan Times, Jolie was asked if she would ever want to work in Bollywood. And surprisingly, she was unsure of herself. She shared her experience of working with Kumail Nanjiani on Eternals, saying how he brought his “desi” touch to the movie. She said:
I don’t know how good I would be at it. But we all loved that angle (in the film). We were so excited when (Kumail Nanjiani) was doing (his scenes). It was this exciting part of the film and we thought it was so cool. We used to love when he used to practise. It is a great and exciting addition to the film.
On her special relationship with India
Despite her insecurities about working in Bollywood, she does share that she has a special relationship with India. Jolie said:
I don’t know if it’s the density of the population [or something else], but there is this [feeling of[ humanity which is very present (in India). Because of the nature of (the country), be it on the trains or in the streets, you feel right [when you are] together.
And despite being a foreigner, Angelina Jolie explained that she never felt like an outsider. She said that she “felt a part of the country” and that she knows some incredible people here. She said:
I felt the energy, the intensity, and the humanity. I would like to come back again soon. You learn from so many different places. I feel that I certainly made many great friends when I was in India.
In other news, Angelina Jolie’s personal life has recently taken a significant turn. She parted ways with her husband of seven years, Brad Pitt. During the turmoil, she revealed just how toxic their relationship had begun, revealing infidelity and abusive behavior.
Angelina Jolie is one of the most renowned humanitarians across the globe, and even her movies reflect her stances
Angelina Jolie first visited India back in 2006 to shoot her film A Mighty Heart. During that time, she also got to enjoy the country as a tourist, taking a ride in an auto-rickshaw (a famous local transport service). Moreover, she also got to meet Afghan and Myanmar refugees. But that is just a small part of her illustrious work as a philanthropist and human rights activist. She is a goodwill ambassador and also a special envoy for the UN High Commissioner for Refugees. In fact, she makes sure each project that she takes on mirrors her principles and stances of being a humanitarian. And that was why she decided to give Marvel’s Eternals a try. She said:
The themes of representation, diversity, and sisterhood are very important to me. It is also the reason I agreed to make the film, Eternals. They explained to me this vision (of expanding the Marvel universe with these themes), and I felt that I wanted to be a part of this family like I want to be a part of this family in the world.
In the end, Angelina Jolie talked about just how important diversity is and how it helps everyone to learn from each other. She concluded by saying:
I hope this is now the beginning of what is new normal in films and we see much more of it.
