Hollywood has been in shock for the past few days ever since the news came out of Alec Baldwin accidentally shooting and killing the Director of Photography of his 19th Century western Rust. It was a truly unfortunate incident that put almost everyone on Twitter in shock. The victim, Halyna Hutchins, was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries. Soon afterward, Piers Morgan shared pictures of a distraught Baldwin right after the shooting calling someone on phone. And that sparked outrage in itself.

Soon after Alec Baldwin started trending on Twitter, Piers Morgan shared a few pictures of Baldwin all distraught after the shooting. The pictures were taken by Jim Weber of The New Mexican and they depict Baldwin frantically calling someone on his phone. And Morgan tweeted them from his official account:

Soon after when Twitter users saw the picture, they immediately started questing Morgan. They asked him how it was appropriate to share Baldwin’s pictures right after such a tragic accident. They were in the replies of his tweet:

Another Twitter user asked why was Piers Morgan spreading photos of Alec Baldwin in such a condition. In response, another user cracked a joke, saying: “Can’t hack his phone anymore so this is the next best thing I guess”. This was, of course, hinted towards a huge scandal where Morgan, while he was in charge of Sunday Mirror newspaper, is accused of letting his staff hack into the voicemails of celebrities. There was another accusation of him hacking into a dead girl’s phone as well.

There were other Twitter users who were not as angry on Piers Morgan but more so on the photographer.

Alec Baldwin addresses shooting incident

Right after the shooting, Baldwin immediately went to the country sheriff’s office and recorded his statement voluntarily. Apart from the outrage around Piers Morgan, Alec Baldwin also addressed the accidental shooting in a statement he released on Twitter. He said:

There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours. I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.

Furthermore, Alec Baldwin then shared a story on Variety that stated that the AD shouted the gun was a “cold gun”. It meant that it had no live ammo. But, when Baldwin shot the gun, the bullet went and hit Halyna Hutchins fatally in the chest and director Joel Souza’s shoulder.

Halyna Hutchins was a Ukrainian, who grew up in a Soviet military base located in the Arctic Circle. She studied Journalism from Ukraine and film from Los Angeles and had a lucrative career ahead of her. The American Cinematographer magazine also named her a “rising star” in 2019 in the field.
