For an entire generation, the Home Alone series was the perfect Christmas movie that millions enjoyed in the comfort of their homes as Santa brings kids their gifts. Seeing Macaulay Culkin battle out thieves and thugs all by his wit and cunningness was a comfort watch for kids and adults alike. But, it looks like Disney wants the new generation to enjoy another rendition of the iconic 90s movie. Yes, Disney is releasing a Home Alone remake, and it’s coming soon.

The upcoming Home Alone remake is titled Home Sweet Home Alone and follows exactly the same premise as the original. But, instead of Macauly Culkin, who is now 41 years old, we will see child actor Archie Yates playing Max, the kid who gets left behind (as always). Moreover, we won’t be seeing traditional burglars this time. This is because Rob Delaney and Ellie Kemper will be playing a married couple who try to rob the family home this time around. Apart from these stars, Kenan Thompson, Tim Simons, Pete Holmes, Devin Ratray, Ally Maki, and Chris Parnell will also feature in Home Sweet Home Alone.

Despite the cast and the investment, the Home Alone remake did not receive a positive response from the fans. The original Home Alone films are so adored among fans that to them this remake just seems “unnecessary. The performances by Caulkin, Joe Pesci, Catherine O’Hara, and the late John Candy are among the most iconic compared to any other Christmas movie. Moreover, the soundtrack and the exceptional dialogue still resonate among the audience to this day. And that this why this Home Alone remake will have to perform exceptionally well to find a place in the heart of fans.

Fan reaction to the trailer of the Home Alone remake

And sure enough, you could clearly see the disdain among fans for the Home Alone remake. One critic Andy Signore said that the reboot made “the robbers less scary & the kid less sweet”. Moreover, he also said the movie just recycled the main concept and that it’s better to just rewatch the original.

Other critics were quick to notice just how good was the performance by the original cast, especially O’Hara. When the reboot cast repeated the same lines, it just didn’t hit the same as the original.

Other critics just wanted Macauly Culkin and Joe Pesci back at any cost. And one came up with an incredible meme that just had me rolling on the floor. But then, after gaining my senses, I thought it actually makes a lot of sense.

In the end, even Macauly Culkin had to clarify that he was not part of the Home Alone reboot. However, he did wish good luck to the team of Home Sweet Home Alone.

For whatever reason, the new Home Alone is just not resonating with the fans. At least the trailer has failed to make any kind of positive impression. We’ll have to wait and see how Home Sweet Home Alone performs in theatres or Disney+. And for that, we’ll have to wait for the release date, which is November 12, 2021.
