Whenever Christopher Nolan announces a new film, it’s usually a festival to celebrate for sci-fi nerds. This time, the upcoming movie that Nolan is making with Universal Studios is promising to be another epic masterclass. The Interstellar director is now making a movie on the infamous atomic bomb scientist J. Robert Oppenheimer. And fans had been wondering which actor would be brave enough to play the role of the scientist who single-handedly changed the course of humanity for all times to come. And now, we know who that actor is – Cillian Murphy.

This upcoming project by Nolan is based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning book American Prometheus: The Triumph And Tragedy Of J. Robert Oppenheimer by Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin. It focuses on the role that Oppenheimer played in the making of the first atomic bomb, but ultimately realized the deadly power he had handed to politicians in a weapon that could end all of humanity in a moment. After the creation of the bomb, Oppenheimer lobbied at an international level for controlling nuclear weapons. Moreover, he also openly opposed the creation of the even-deadlier fusion bombs, also called hydrogen bombs. And to portray this complicated character in scientific history, Nolan chose Cillian Murphy.

Immediately, one can tell that Cillian Murphy does resemble Oppenheimer. And with his proven acting acumen, he is bound to be a success in film with Christopher Nolan at the helm. This was after the director openly spoke against Warner Bros. decision to stream their entire 2021 catalog on HBO Max at the time of their release.
