Timothée Chalamet reveals first look of himself as Willy Wonka

After 16 long years, Hollywood is getting a new Willy Wonka. And it is none other than Timothée Chalamet. The Call Me By Your Name actor is going to play the role of a young Willy Wonka in a prequel movie of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, named Wonka. And now, the actor has given us first looks of himself donning the role of the eccentric Chocolate Factory owner.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is getting a prequel movie

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is a 1964 novel by famous author Roald Dahl, which focuses on a young boy named Charlie who won the Golden Ticket to explore the mythical Chocolate Factory that sells everyone’s favorite Wonka bars. And on their trip, they meet the famous owner of the factory, called Willy Wonka. But in this prequel movie, Timothée Chalamet is playing a younger version of the chocolate factory owner. The movie will also include musical numbers by The Divine Comedy‘s Neil Hannon

While revealing his first look, Timothée Chalamet wrote in the caption of the picture on Instagram, referencing to the iconic 1971 rendition of Willy Wonka by Gene Wilder:

The suspense is terrible, I hope it will last…

Moreover, apart from Timothée Chalamet, a lot of high-profile names are taking part in the making of Wonka. Paul King of Paddington 2 will be at the director’s helm, with Simon Farnaby as co-writer. Moreover, Rowan Atkinson, Sally Hawkins, Olivia Colman, Keegan-Michael Key, and Matt Lucas will also feature alongside Chalamet. Wonka currently has a release date set for March 17, 2023.

The Oscar-nominated actor has been a part of numerous blockbuster movies. Most recently, Timothée Chalamet is playing a prominent role in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune. But now, he is already on to his next project, playing everyone’s favorite chocolate factory owner. And looking at the pictures is enough to tell that he fills in the shoes of Willy Wonka quite well. So far, Chamalet is the third actor to portray this chocolatier, with the first two being Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp.

So far, Dune has received many positive reviews and is one of the highest anticipated movies of this year by Warner Bros. The movie is set to hit the theatres in the US and across the globe on 22nd October, after facing numerous delays during the COVID-19 pandemic.
