House of the Dragon: HBO releases first teaser trailer of the Game of Thrones prequel
With each passing day, the upcoming Game of Thrones prequel series, House of the Dragon, is getting closer to its 2022 release. And now, HBO has finally released the first official teaser trailer of House of the Dragon. And there are some things that the teaser had that make us think that this prequel series will be something entirely different than what we’re accustomed to seeing.
First teaser trailer of House of the Dragon is finally here, and there’s one major difference from Game of Thrones
News broke out merely an hour ago where HBO Max officially tweeted the first teaser of House of the Dragon. And immediately, Twitter went crazy. This was the first time that we saw the cast of the show actually portray their characters. We saw in the teaser, albeit briefly, Matt Smith as Daemon Targaryen, Emma D’Arcy as Princess Rhaenyra, Paddy Considine as Viserys Targaryen I, Milly Alcock as young Princess Rhaenyra, and Steve Toussaint as Corlys Velaryon. And thus, we now have an official glimpse of what is to come in House of the Dragon.
However, if you have a keen set of eyes and know how different George RR Martin’s book series A Song of Ice and Fire is, you must have noticed something different. In the books, Martin wrote that the Iron Throne was made by melting a thousand swords that Aegon Targaryen won in his conquest of the seven kingdoms. It was a notoriously difficult seat to sit on. Aegon the conqueror made it like that because he believed no king should sit easily on his throne. But in Game of Thrones, we saw a much smaller version of the Iron Throne.
But, House of the Dragon is approaching it a bit differently. In this shot, we can see that the main Iron Throne is still the same, but surrounded by numerous other swords standing upright. I feel like this is a statement by HBO that they’re taking a more conservative route with the storyline this time, instead of deviating so massively from the source in Game of Thrones. Here, take a look at the throne:
But, I could be wrong. We will have to wait for the House of the Dragon release date on 1st January 2022 on HBO Max. Until then, you can watch the trailer below for some comfort:
