After some long and hard court battles, Britney Spears is finally free from her father’s influence. On September 29, LA courts suspended Jamie Spears from Britney’s conservatorship, ending his brutal control over his 39-year-old daughter for the past 13 years since the court-mandated conservatorship began. Throughout this ordeal, a fan-led movement named the #FreeBritney movement was right behind the pop icon. And Britney was not one to forget their contribution in this long and hard legal and personal fight.
Last night, the entire world was basically on Twitter. There was something significantly wrong at Mark Zuckerberg’s office, which resulted in Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp being down for hours upon hours. During that time, Britney Spears took to Twitter to thank her fans for their support, particularly the Free Britney movement. Throughout the hearings, fans of the movement would continuously flock outside of the courthouse, traveling hundreds of miles at a time, to show their support for their favorite pop star. This was the first time the Toxic singer has spoken in public since her father Jamie Spears was suspended from her conservatorship. She wrote:
#FreeBritney movement … I have no words … because of you guys and your constant resilience in freeing me from my conservatorship … my life is now in that direction !!!!! I cried last night for two hours cause my fans are the best and I know it …
In the tweet, Britney also shared a video of herself, just like she would on Instagram. But, it was Twitter that got to see the love from the pop icon, as she said in a follow-up tweet:
I feel your hearts and you feel mine … that much I know is true !!!!!
Moreover, Britney Spears also mentioned on Twitter that she was in French Polynesia, and is now “getting back on my feet”.
Is Britney’s conservatorship saga finally over?
Although the courts suspended Britney Spears’s father, the conservatorship itself is still there. It was quite a tumultuous summer for the legal arrangement after Britney’s bombshell court hearing on July 24. As soon as that happened, the entire world turned their face towards Britney. Multiple celebrities flocked in for her support, including Justin Timberlake. Afterward, an article by Ronan Farrow further revealed just how oppressive and invasive the conservatorship of Britney Spears was. After the court came to know of some disturbing surveillance revelations, the court suspended Jamie Spears, who was at the helm of the conservatorship. The legal arrangement still exists, but we’re not sure how long or how further it’ll continue, or if at all. But, her father was not happy with the suspension, as his legal team said in a statement:
Respectfully, the court was wrong to suspend Mr. Spears, put a stranger in his place to manage Britney’s estate, and extend the very conservatorship that Britney begged the court to terminate earlier this summer.
Right now, the pop icon is engaged to her long-term partner Sam Asghari, as the couple recently made the announcement on social media.
